The Montréal Metro is the rapid transit system serving the City of Montréal, Laval, and the South Shore. The system operates over four (4) lines over an entirely subterrain network.
Opus is the automated fare collection system for the STM and Metro
Note: Credit cards and mobile wallets are not accepted.
Fares
The STM uses a zoned based fare system. Most of the Metro is within Zone A which covers all of the Island of Montréal. Ride and transfer for up to 120 minutes (2 hours).
A single ride fare is $3.75.

Of note, the STM’s 747 YUL Airport bus offer dedicated luggage racks when travelling to Montréal Trudeau (YUL). The bus departs from Berri-UQAM and stops Lionel-Groulx metro stations.

Pros
- Very Extensive coverage across Montréal.
- System is entirely underground and protected from cold weather.
- Large métro network for Canadian standards.
- Good integration with regional ARTM and nearby transit services.
- A great way to explore Montréal without a car.
Cons
- Crowding, especially on Orange and Green Lines during peak rush hour.
- Aging infrastructure problems plague the system.
- Network expansion has not kept up with Montreal’s growing population.
Notes
- For visitors and tourists, the Unlimited Weekend pass allows for unlimited travel across all zones (A,B,C,D) on STM bus, Metro, EXO train, and REM train. As well as the 747 YUL Airport bus. All for $17. A prefect way to explore Greater Montréal.
