Société de transport de Montréal (STM) is the transit system serving the City of Montréal and Greater Montréal bus and rail services. The STM operates several rapid transit and streetcar lines. Most notable is the Montréal Metro and bus rapid transit system acting as the agency’s backbone. Most buses terminate at Metro stations, regional terminals, or loops.
Opus is the automated fare collection system for the Greater Montréal and Québec City.
Credit cards and mobile wallets are also accepted.
Fares
The STM uses a zoned based fare system. Most tourists and travellers will be within Zone A which covers all of the Island of Montréal. Ride and transfer for up to 120 minutes (2 hours).
A single ride fare is $3.75.

Of note, the STM’s 747 YUL Airport bus offer dedicated luggage racks when travelling to Montréal Trudeau (YUL).

- Crowding, especially on Orange and Green Lines during peak rush hour.
- Limited, dedicated bus routes.
- Bus reliability means travel can be unpredictable.
- Construction projects are causing major route diversions and delays.
- A streetcar/tram network would make Montréal’s neighbourhoods more whimsical to explore.
Notes
- For visitors and tourists, the Unlimited Weekend pass allows for unlimited travel across all zones (A,B,C,D) on STM bus, Metro, EXO train, and REM train. As well as the 747 YUL Airport bus. All for $17. A prefect way to explore Greater Montréal.
