After the closure of the original Ottawa Union Station located downtown, this modern, international style station serves intercity trains (VIA Rail), rapid transit (O-Train), intercity buses and even a shuttle bus operated by Air France-KLM for passengers flying out of Montreal Airport.
Good to know …
Pros
- Beautiful, international style architecture
- Direct access to downtown via O-Train rapid transit (Tremblay Station)
- Airport shuttle to Montreal YUL Airport operated by Air France-KLM (for passengers only)
Cons
- Not directly located downtown
- Cannot access the platform until 5 minutes before departure. Passengers have to line up like they are boarding a plane to have their ticket checked then access the platform
- Only 1 platform is at standard level height (the one closest to the station)
- With the growing list of intercity bus operators, this station should have proper bus bays; not ones mixed in with taxis and drop offs out front. The owners of this station, VIA Rail should consider building a proper intercity bus terminal with angled bays to accommodate demand
- The station should have a proper suffix to distinguish the station name given the size of the city (and avoid confusion with the O-Train network). We suggest “Ottawa Tremblay”
Notes
- Since the closure of the “Ottawa Central Station” intercity bus terminal in downtown Ottawa. Bus operators have fractured across the city using various terminals. The most popular of these is this station. FlixBus, Ontario Northland, Onex, Orléans Express, and Red Arrow all serve Ottawa Station. The others use St. Laurent Station (O-Train) or downtown.
