How To Get From Los Angeles International Airport To Downtown

Option 1: LAX Shuttle / Metro Train  Option 2: FlyAway Bus Option 3: Taxi / Rideshare

Option 1: LAX Shuttle / Metro Train 

  • Travel time: 45-60 minutes
  • For those on a budget, consider riding the LA Metro to downtown. From the Lower/Arrivals area, head to the pink LAX Shuttle sign to catch a free shuttle bus (running every 10 minutes) to LAX/Transit Center Station – the intermodal transport hub for the airport.
  • From here there are two options to reach downtown LA. There is no direct option with both involving at least one transfer:
  • Option A: Metro C / A Line 
  • Board the C Line (Green) to Willowbrook/Rosa Parks Station and change trains to the A Line (Blue) and continue northbound to downtown LA. Get off at Little Tokyo/Arts District Station or LA’s intermodal hub for the Metro, commuter and intercity trains –Union Station.
  • Option B: Metro K / E Line 
  • Board the K Line (Pink) to Expo/Crenshaw Station and change trains to the E Line (Yellow) and continue to downtown LA. Get off at Little Tokyo/Arts District Station or another station in the area.
  • Note: The Metro is not intended for travelers with heavy luggage so this route is best if you’re packing light.
  • Consider purchasing Transit Access Pass, the Greater LA Area’s integrated fare card to the city.  
  • Fare for LA Metro Rail is $1.75.

Option 2: FlyAway Bus

  • Travel time: 35-60 minutes
  • The fastest way to get from LAX to downtown LA with non stop service. Running every 30 minutes. From the Lower/Arrivals area, head to blue Flyaway signs to catch the bus. Heading into downtown LA the FlyAway Bus will stop atUnion Station – LA’s intermodal hub.

Option 3: Taxi / Rideshare

  • Travel time: 30-40 minutes
  • Undoubtedly, the most expensive option from our list but the most private. In addition to taxis, Opoli, Wingz, Uber and Lyft offer private rideshare services from the airport. Expect to pay at least $30-60 for a ride. Be aware of surge pricing and heavy traffic heading into downtown Los Angeles.
